Abstract
The diagnosis of a chronic illness is one of the significant turning points in
life that changes the whole family cycle. In addition to the difficulty of the
situation, patients and their families might find medical health
professionals’ explanations about the treatment process dissatisfactory. In
order to explain these situations, Susan McDaniel developed the
biopsychosocial model of Medical Family Therapy approach. This model
outlines the importance of emotional and social support for families who
are coping with a chronic illness. As a part of the biopsychosocial model,
the medical art therapy model was introduced in order to work with these
families efficiently. This art therapy model aims to provide socioemotional support for chronically ill patients and their families, and to
reorganize the family’s relationship with the medical health team. In
regard of this information, the objective of this project is to explore and
analyze the research on chronically ill patients and their families and
develop a psychosocial art therapy program for families with a chronically
ill child.

Kronik hastalık teşhisinin konulması bütün aile döngüsünü değiştiren
önemli yaşam olaylarından biridir. Bu değişim sürecinde, gerek hastanın
kendisi ve gerekse ailesi, medikal sağlık ekibinin tedavi süreciyle ilgili
bilgilendirmesini yeterli bulmayabiliyor. Bu sürecin hasta ve ailesi
tarafından daha iyi tanımlandırılmasına olanak sağlayabilmek için; Susan
McDaniel biyopsikososyal bir model olarak Medikal Aile Terapisi
yaklaşımını geliştirmiştir. Bu model ailede kronik hastalıkla baş eden
bireyler için duygusal ve sosyal desteğin önemini açıklamaktadır.
Biyopsikososyal modelin yan dallarından biri olarak, ailelerle
uygulanabilecek medikal sanat terapisi yaklaşımı geliştirilmiştir. Bu sanat
terapisi modelinde, kronik hasta ve ailesine sosyal ve duygusal destek
verilmesi ve aile ile medikal sağlık ekibi arasındaki ilişkinin düzenlenmesi
hedeflenmiştir. Bu projenin temel amacı da, literatürde kronik hastalar ve
aileleri için yapılan araştırmaları incelemek ve kronik hastalığı olan
çocukların ailelerine yönelik bir psikososyal sanat terapisi programı
tasarlamaktır.
